This particular sauna is from High Tech Health International, which happens to be a Boulder company.
We all want to support local, right?
It is low EMF (Electromagnetic Field) and it contains an Earthing mat to further neutralize free radicals.
It’s made from beautiful and strong poplar wood, which is also the superior wood of choice in saunas for health-minded people. In fact, health professionals and toxicologists recommend it over all other choices.
- detoxification
- allergy relief
- improved exercise tolerance and enhanced muscle recovery
- decreased pain and inflammation
- resistance to infection
- improved mental and cognitive abilities
- skin benefits
- lowered risk of complications from diabetes,
- increased antioxidants
- longevity
We provide hand towels for use during your session and washcloths for wiping down the sauna after use (just like at the gym).
Please bring your own toiletries and body towel for showering.
Choosing a Temperature:
- The sauna will be at 100°F upon your arrival, ready for you to enter. Many of the benefits of an infrared sauna come from exposure to the light itself, not the temp, so you can get benefits with as low as 100°F.
- Do not preheat the sauna to full temperature – you should enter before it reaches max temp and stay in as the temp increases.
- If you’re new to using a sauna, start with 110-120°F range. If you’ve had experience with saunas before, set it to 130°F.
Never use the sauna over 135 degrees Fahrenheit. - At least 1/3 of the population (especially women and the elderly) is heat-intolerant and does not sweat even with vigorous exercise. Therefore, you need to build your heat acclimatization program slowly so as not to stress your system.
- Don’t be concerned if you don’t perspire during your first few sessions in the sauna. Often, it is necessary for our bodies to re-learn this important thermo-regulatory function. You will still be releasing toxins via stool, urine and breath even if you’re not perspiring.
Guidelines and recommendations for your far infrared sauna experience:
- Drink a glass of water before entering the sauna and sip water during the entire session.
- For extra detoxification, dry brush or rinse off in the shower before getting into the sauna. Be sure to dry off thoroughly before going into the sauna, because excessive water will warp the wood.
- Do not put any lotions or oils on the body or face when using the sauna. This may block the pores and hinder perspiration.
- Do not eat anything at least an hour before your sauna session. Actually, it is better to go in the sauna on an empty stomach. You are more likely to feel uncomfortable sitting in a sauna with a full stomach.
- Be sure to sit on a towel and put a towel under the earthing mat to prevent the sweat from soaking into the wood. To avoid reabsorption of toxins, wipe accumulating sweat from your skin with a third towel. Shower soon after sauna use.
DO NOT put a towel against the backrest, as this will block the light from the skin on your back. You can, however, put a towel against the side wall if you wish to lean against it.
For Optimal relaxation:
Most of the benefits of a far infrared sauna come from exposure to light, so wear as few clothes as you feel comfortable with.
Far infrared light isn’t visible to the human eye, so the light inside the sauna is for chromotherapy, or light therapy. Choose a color that matches your mood or a color that you’d like to influence your mood. For maximum relaxation, we recommend the lowest two brightness settings, and turning OFF the lights in the bathroom. DO NOT TAKE THE REMOTE INSIDE THE SAUNA, as the plastic will off-gas and potentially melt.
There’s a stereo inside the sauna with an auxiliary cable for you to connect your phone, and a dongle for newer iPhone connections. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PHONE IN WITH YOU, AS IT WILL OVERHEAT.
Hearing Aids / Glasses / Jewelry are okay to leave in/on.
After Use:
Allow yourself a few minutes to cool down before getting into the shower. We recommend a cool to room temperature shower so as to encourage the cessation of perspiration. It’ll also feel more refreshing after the heat of the sauna.
Wipe down the sauna and earthing mat with a damp washcloth. Wipe down the wood portions, particularly where your skin touched, and NOT the heaters. The infrared light is disinfecting, so there’s no need to use soap or essential oils.
Leave the door to the bathroom open on your way out, so we know that no one’s in there.
We recommend taking appropriate supplements to compensate for minerals lost during the sweating portion of sauna therapy. Taking calcium, magnesium, and potassium can replenish your system.
To leverage your healing journey, follow up your sauna session with earthing! Check out my blog “What Is Behind the Concept of Grounding / Earthing?” to read about this win-win practice.
