Massage Tool: Kansa Wands
Let me infuse a 5,000-year-old massage technique into your next massage with one of my favorite tools: the Kansa Wand! This ancient Ayurvedic tool predates the jade roller and gua-sha, originating in India during the Bronze Age.
I truly believe in the benefits of Kansa Wands as a massage tool and that’s why I’ll use them occasionally in Deep Tissue massages at NO ADDITIONAL COST – just like my other massage tools, the Dynamic Cupping with Silicone Cups and the BioMat and the Essential oils I’m adding to my sessions.
The power of this massage tool is said to come from the ancient, golden metal called Kansa, a sacred metal alloy produced from pure tin and copper. This blend of metals is known in Ayurveda, a traditional healing system in India, as “Healing Metal”. In English it’s called Bell metal and is form of Bronze.
Why use a Kansa Wand as a massage tool?
- Tones muscles and relieves muscle tension
- Improves blood circulation
- Purifies the lymphatic system by draining toxins – basically promoting lymphatic drainage
- Restores the skin’s pH balance, thereby minimizing inflammation
In the realm of Ayurvedic medicine, the advantages extend beyond superficial skincare. It is thought to possess therapeutic properties that harmonize the three doshas—Pita (fire), Vata (air), and Kapha (water)—while also clearing blockages in the seven chakras, or energy centers, within the body. This, in turn, enhances vitality and alleviates stress.
Kansa wands come in different sizes and are traditionally used on the face, the body and the feet. I love using the wands in my Reflexology [link] treatments and during the TMJ treatment Add-on [link], and it’s definitely great to use when my clients struggle with stress and tension. How to use a Kansa Wand?
I use the Kansa Wand in combination with an organic Jojoba oil, which is hypoallergenic and can be used with all skin types, along with essential oils. This helps the wand to glide freely, providing a warm, relaxing, and comfortable sensation while balancing the subtle energies of the body. Using small circular movements or gently sweeping along a muscle, you will find it incredibly relaxing.
