Rotator cuff syndrome, or shoulder impingement syndrome, is common in people who paint, swim, lift weights, play tennis, or perform any overhead activity. Living in Boulder offers plenty of outdoor activities, but sports participation can also bring rotator cuff and shoulder injuries.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the rotator “cuff” is a group of four muscles* and tendons connecting the upper arm (humerus) to the shoulder blade (scapula). These muscles allow the shoulder to move and rotate inward (internal rotation) and outward (external rotation). The tendons provide stability to the shoulder.

*The muscles in the rotator cuff include:

Teres minor

Infraspinatus

Supraspinatus

Subscapularis

Rotator cuff tendinitis refers to irritation of one of these tendons and inflammation of the bursa lining these tendons. A tear or inflammation can occur on a microscopic level (or worse) from overuse or injury.

When the tendon is stretched or inflamed, pain can be persistent and affect everyday activities. Any motion overhead or reaching back may trigger discomfort.

Massage for Rotator Cuff Syndrome

Treatment depends on the severity of the injury. While there are many exercises to strengthen the rotator cuff muscles, coupling exercise with regular massage is beneficial. Massage improves blood flow to the area, aids healing, breaks down scar tissue, and eases muscle tension.

Deep Tissue massage addresses pain and muscle spasms while improving range of motion. Trigger point compression can reduce muscle tightness, and pain-free passive joint movements maintain mobility.

After 48 hours, heat may help the injured site. More direct therapy, like friction to muscles and tendons, reduces adhesions and micro scar tissue. Post-surgery scar tissue breaking typically starts 4–6 weeks after the operation.

Between massage treatments (2–3 times a week for 3 weeks), apply self-treatments such as hydrotherapy stretches and resistance exercises to stay on track for recovery.

If you have shoulder pain or a diagnosed rotator cuff injury, contact us or book your deep tissue treatment today. Consider adding a 30-minute Hand & Arm Add-On to your session as a first step toward wellness.

In the hustle and bustle of modern life, it’s easy to neglect our well-being. That’s where regular massages come in. Massages offer a range of benefits that go beyond mere relaxation and indulgence. They help reconnect you with your body, making it easier to recognize stress signals before they escalate.

Cumulatively, bodywork sessions can significantly improve your overall physical, mental, and emotional well-being. In my office, I encourage a holistic approach to well-being, and as most of you know, prevention is better than trying to solve an issue or reduce pain.

What are the physical benefits of Massage Therapy?

The list of physical benefits of massage therapy is long!!!

Muscle Relaxation: Massage helps to relieve muscle tension and stiffness, or just tired and aching muscles. It also promotes muscle relaxation and improves flexibility. Massages can release trigger points and tightness by targeting areas of tension, helping to alleviate discomfort and improve overall mobility and muscle tone. Muscle relaxation also improves posture and body awareness. Massages may do wonders for people prone to muscle cramps or muscle spasms.

Pain Relief: Massages can help alleviate chronic pain conditions such as lower back pain or neck pain. If you suffer from headaches or TMJ, massages are known for reducing tension headaches. I also have clients with very specific issues, such as Fibromyalgia, Rotator Cuff Syndrome, Sciatica, Foot Pain, Myofascial Pain, Plantar Fasciitis, Carpal Tunnel or Elbow Tendinitis, and they definitely see some relief for their pain when getting regular massages. Massages can reduce pain perception through the manipulation of soft tissues and stimulate the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers.

Improved Circulation:

Massages increase blood and lymph circulation and tissue metabolism, which helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to the body’s tissues while removing waste products. As part of the relaxation, massages lower blood pressure, reduce the heart rate, slow down respiration and promote more effective breathing. Thanks to the improved circulation, you also see an improved skin tone.

Enhanced Immunity: Studies have shown that regular massages can boost the immune system by increasing the activity of white blood cells, which play a key role in defending the body against infection and disease. Massages can help keep you healthy and resilient by supporting immune function.

Support Recovery: Massages improve circulation, can enhance overall health and vitality, leading to better energy levels, a strengthened immune system and faster recovery from injury or illness. Massages also reduce swelling or scarring by encouraging blood flow to damaged tissue.

What are the mental benefits of Massage Therapy?

Being forced to slow down and focus on self-care can often be a relief.

Stress Reduction: Massages help to reduce stress by promoting relaxation and lowering levels of the stress hormone cortisol.

Mental Relaxation: Regular massages can provide a much-needed break from the demands of daily life, allowing the body and mind to unwind. This, in turn, will induce mental relaxation and promote better sleep. With better sleep comes improved concentration, so it’s a win-win!

Any emotional benefits of Massage Therapy?

The emotional benefits of a massage are often hard to describe, and I can see it more in the smile that people give me after a massage.

Reduce Anxiety and Depression: Massages have been found to have positive effects on mental and emotional health, reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Mood Improvement: Massages calm the nervous system, which in turn improves mood, calms bad tempers, promotes feelings of relaxation and well-being, and enhances one’s self-image and overall quality of life.

Trigger Emotional Release: With released muscle tension, sometimes emotional baggage is released in the form of Emotional Release.

That is a long list of benefits, right? I hope I’ve convinced you that it’s totally worth the investment in your health to get a massage on a regular or semi-regular basis. No matter if your focus is on your physical, mental or emotional life, all the benefits go hand-in-hand, so your body, mind and spirit will thank you when you’re getting a massage.

If this all hasn’t convinced you yet, then check out this very interesting YouTube video from “What are the health benefits of massage? – CrowdScience, BBC World Service podcast.”

How often should you get treated?

A ‘regular’ massage can look different to different people, depending on their needs. If you’re recovering from an injury, illness or surgery, you might want to be treated more often. But not too often either.. We need to let the body heal itself, it knows how to…

For maintenance, I would suggest having a massage every 4-6 weeks.

What kind of massages are recommended?

My personal go-to and favorite session to give is the Deep Tissue Massage, 90 or 120 minutes. In that time frame, I can focus on a few target areas, do a full body session or mix in a few modalities like a bit of Reflexology and/or Energy Healing, depending on what we’re working on.

Other services like Aroma Touch Session, a Swedish Massage or a Hot Stone Massage can support your overall well-being and relaxation and are great options for bodywork.

Book your appointment now and feel the benefits for yourself.

Sauna therapy has been celebrated for centuries for its myriad health benefits. We’re excited to share with you the top eight reasons why incorporating sauna sessions into your routine can be transformative. At Heavenly Embrace Wellness, we prioritize your holistic well-being.

As part of our commitment to your health journey, we are thrilled to offer Far Infrared sauna sessions alongside our massage services, enhancing the value of your experience with us.

1. Speeds Muscle Recovery After a Workout

Are you familiar with the post-workout muscle soreness that often follows intense exercise? Far infrared sauna therapy has been shown to alleviate this discomfort by reducing inflammation, thereby accelerating muscle recovery. Whether you’re an athlete or a fitness enthusiast, Far Infrared sauna sessions can be an invaluable tool in your recovery arsenal.

2. Increases Muscle Strength and Growth

Surprisingly, sauna therapy can enhance muscle strength and growth without the need for rigorous exercise. Studies have demonstrated that exposure to heat can lead to significant increases in muscle mass and protein content. In turn this is contributing to improved overall strength and performance.

3. Stimulates Natural Antioxidants

Far Infrared sauna therapy stimulates the body’s natural antioxidant production. This plays a crucial role in combating oxidative damage—a leading cause of inflammation, disease, and aging. By promoting antioxidant activity, sauna sessions support cellular health and overall well-being.

4. Improves Allergy Symptoms

Seasonal allergies can be a source of discomfort for many individuals. Fortunately, far infrared sauna therapy has been shown to alleviate symptoms such as nasal congestion, itching, and sneezing. Saunas can provide much-needed relief during allergy season.

5. Increases Cellular Resistance to Stress

Far Infrared Sauna therapy enhances cellular resilience to various stressors, including viral infections. By inducing the production of heat shock proteins, saunas bolster the immune system and promote overall resilience. This is a crucial asset in maintaining optimal health.

6. Enhances Mental Health and Cognitive Function

Beyond its physical benefits, sauna therapy offers notable advantages for mental well-being. Regular Far Infrared sauna use has been associated with improved mood, reduced anxiety, and enhanced cognitive function. This makes it a valuable tool for stress management and mental clarity.

7. Helps Reduce Chronic Pain

Chronic pain can significantly impact one’s quality of life. In contrast, Far Infrared sauna therapy offers a non-invasive approach to pain management. By reducing inflammation and promoting relaxation, saunas have been shown to alleviate various forms of chronic pain. This includes arthritis, fibromyalgia, and tension headaches.

8. Promotes Overall Relaxation and Well-Being

Last but not least, Far Infrared sauna sessions provide a sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation. In fact, the combination of soothing heat and tranquil ambiance offers a therapeutic escape from the stresses of daily life, allowing you to unwind and nurture your mind, body, and spirit.

At Heavenly Embrace Wellness, we are dedicated to supporting you on your health journey. Our Far Infrared sauna sessions are designed to complement your wellness routine seamlessly. We hope you enjoyed this list of the top eight health benefits of a sauna session. Whether you’re seeking relief from muscle soreness, a boost in cognitive function, or simply a moment of relaxation, our sauna therapy offers a multitude of benefits for your holistic well-being.

The Best Sleeping Positions

There’s no doubt that sleep is a significant and important part of the human experience. Cultures around the world have understood how vital it is since the earliest days of human history. According to traditional Chinese medicine, sleep is essential for maintaining the balance of yin and yang within the body. Organs like the gall bladder, liver, and lungs are said to replenish the body when at rest during the night. Without good sleeping habits, it’s said that the body’s natural energies are drained and the quality of life is therefore decreased. Let’s review the importance of sleeping positions and the best sleeping positions for your health.

Sleep Better & More Comfortably

To keep your mind and body functioning its best, you need to be adequately rested. If you are waking up with pain in your body or finding your arms are falling asleep frequently, you may be experiencing spinal discomfort at night. Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate your sleeping habits, sleep hygiene, and the position you sleep in.

The position you sleep in can have an impact on the overall quality of your sleep, and can even affect your very bodily structure. To put it simply, there are some positions that work well and some you probably want to avoid.

Courtesy of: cpapclinic.ca

Stomach Sleeping

Sleeping on one’s stomach is a common habit that can provide much comforting to the psyche, but it’s widely regarded as one of the worst sleeping positions, especially if you suffer from past injury or arthritis in the neck region. While it can reduce snoring, it can also reduce the spine’s natural curve, leading to lower back pain over time. It also has the potential to cause pain throughout the back and neck, which can also lead to feelings of tingling or numbness in the arms or fingers, and generally reduces the quality of one’s sleep.

Side Sleeping

Slightly better than the stomach, sleeping on one’s side can also reduce sleep apnea and snoring with less risk of adverse effects. The side you sleep on plays a significant role here. Sleeping on the right side can worsen heartburn. Sleeping on the left, however, can put a strain on organs like the liver, stomach, and lungs. For best results, you should have a pillow thick enough to tilt your head above your shoulders. Furthermore, if possible, position a pillow between your legs.

Back Sleeping

By far the best way to sleep is on your back. This makes it easier for the head, neck, and spine to align naturally and comfortably. Without the added pressure to your muscles and bones, you’re in the best position to sleep well and avoid muscle pain.

Sleeping habits can be long-lasting and difficult to break, but with persistence can be changed. Time and effort spent sleeping in a better position can have a tremendous impact on your health and well being.

What is Sleep Hygiene?

Obtaining healthy sleep is important for both physical and mental health, improving productivity and overall quality of life. Good sleep hygiene is all about putting yourself in the best position to sleep well each and every night.

Strong sleep hygiene means having both a bedroom environment and daily routines that promote consistent, uninterrupted sleep. Keeping a stable sleep schedule, making your bedroom comfortable and free of disruptions, following a relaxing pre-bed routine, and building healthy habits during the day can all contribute to ideal sleep hygiene.

You might not be able to control the factors that interfere with your sleep. However, you can adopt habits that encourage better sleep. Here are a few tips that may help make your sleep more calm and free of disruptions:

Create a Sleep Schedule: The recommended amount of sleep for a healthy adult is at least seven hours. Most people don’t need more than eight hours in bed to be well rested.

Pay Attention to Food and Drink: Don’t go to bed hungry or stuffed. Avoid heavy meals within a couple of hours of bedtime. Nicotine, caffeine, and alcohol can interfere with sleep.

Have a Comfortable Mattress and Pillow: Choose the best mattress and pillow for your needs wisely. Shop around and try different options.

Use Excellent Bedding: The sheets and blankets are the first thing you touch when you get into bed, so it’s beneficial to make sure they match your needs and preferences.

Set a Cool Yet Comfortable Temperature: Aim for a cooler bedroom (around 65°F) to support better sleep.

Regular Physical Activity: Exercise can promote better sleep, but avoid activity too close to bedtime. Spending time outdoors daily may help too.

Block Out Light: Use heavy curtains or an eye mask, avoid screens before bed, and dim the lights as bedtime approaches.

Drown Out Noise: Try earplugs, a white noise machine, or a fan to reduce disruptive sounds.

Manage Stress and Worries: Write down your concerns before bed, practice stress management, and consider meditation.

Try Calming Scents: Diffuse calming oils such as Lavender, Frankincense, or Vetiver to support relaxation. Activities like an epsom salt bath can also prepare your body for sleep.

Relieving Pain with Bodywork & Massage

Muscle pain while we sleep is never a pleasant experience. Whether it’s from the way we sleep or otherwise, it has the potential to significantly reduce our comfort, mood, and overall quality of life. While sleep, meditation & mindfulness, and other self-care practices like yoga can help with pain management, Massage therapy is another effective treatment option.

Massage brings oxygen to your muscles, improves circulation, which alleviates cramps & pain, and reduces stress and anxiety by relaxing the body. It allows you to feel better and hopefully relaxed enough to get a good night’s sleep.

At Heavenly Embrace Wellness, we offer a range of massage and bodywork services to help you feel your very best. Contact us today to book an appointment and start improving your quality of life.

We’ve all experienced the occasional aches and pains from trying a new exercise, sleeping in the wrong position or a sudden & painful contraction, a cramp in the leg or pain in the foot. But less understood is why this happens. Here’s a brief overview of muscle cramps vs. muscle soreness and the best options for treatment. Learn more about how your body works and how to alleviate muscle pain.

Muscle Cramps vs. Muscle Soreness

According to the Mayo Clinic, a muscle cramp is a “sudden and involuntary contraction of one or more of your muscles”. These cramps are a result of overuse, dehydration, or muscle strain. A ‘charley horse’ is a common name for a muscle cramp.

Muscle soreness is often less severe than cramps and can occur hours or sometimes even days after using the muscle. This is known as Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness or DOMS. This is when you create small tears in the muscles during exercise or exertion.

Self-Care Help for Muscle Cramps

If you’re dealing with an immediate muscle cramp, don’t fret! Drink plenty of water to hydrate your system. Try gentle stretching with deep breaths and massage the muscle with brisk brushing movements. A heating pad or microwavable buckwheat-flaxseed-rice therapeutic pillow can help soften the tight tissue before stretching. Use heat up to 20 minutes, but not longer, to avoid inflammation.

A significant body of research has found that increasing your magnesium intake can help with the frequency of nighttime leg cramps. A daily banana provides magnesium and potassium that support all your muscles, including your heart.

Sore Muscle Help

In general, sore muscles can benefit from rest, stretching, a soak in a hot tub or an Epsom salt bath. You can also try icing the area to reduce inflammation, but move the ice frequently and keep sessions under 20 minutes. Myofascial release with a foam roller, tennis, or lacrosse ball while breathing deeply into the sensitive spots can help relieve tension.

Massage is an excellent option to alleviate sore muscles. Many of my athletic clients use massage to relieve soreness and prevent cramping. A 2018 study concluded that massage is one of the most effective methods for reducing DOMS and perceived fatigue. I highly recommend a Deep Tissue Massage for muscle soreness.

Relieve muscle cramps and soreness in a natural way

Essential oils such as the Deep Blue Soothing Blend can also help relax sore muscles. This blend penetrates into achy joints and muscles to relieve soreness by supporting actual healing of the tissue. The mix of wintergreen, camphor, peppermint, ylang-ylang, helichrysum, blue tansy, blue chamomile, and osmanthus provides a cooling, soothing, and relaxing effect while easing pain and inflammation.

Relieve Muscle Cramps and Soreness with Stretching

Stretch frequently, flexing tight joints and shaking out tense limbs.

Stretch until you feel pull but not pain. Don’t bounce.

Breathe deeply while holding the stretch to increase oxygen to your muscles.

Hold stretches for 3–5 breaths to improve circulation, 5–10 for lengthening.

If you feel sharp pain, stop and return to comfort.

After injury or surgery, consult a health practitioner before stretching routines.

If you suffer from constant muscle cramps or soreness, consider booking a session soon to start your road to wellness.

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy Speeds Muscle Recovery After A Workout

Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is the soreness you feel the day after an intense workout or after using a new muscle group. It results from inflammation triggered by muscle damage. Studies show far infrared therapy during recovery decreases inflammation, pain, and soreness while speeding muscle recovery and improving performance.

I’m looking forward to seeing you at my clinic

Lower Back Pain is a Widespread Issue

Most of us are aware that lower back pain is a widespread issue in the United States. Around 80 percent of us have reported experiencing it at some point in our lives.

It is one of the top causes of missed work among adults. This is understandable because lower back pain has a myriad of causes. Anything from sports-related strains to physical labor slip-ups to sedentary and high-stress office jobs can create pain in the lower back. The pain can be debilitating for those who experience it. Before we discuss options for massage for sciatica, it’s important to understand what could be causing your lower back pain and what options you have for treatment.

What Causes Lower Back Pain?

Lower back pain, sometimes referred to as lumbar pain, has a variety of potential sources within the body. The vertebrae, discs, ligaments, tendons, and nerves of the lower back region all have a part to play in healthy, comfortable movement. Damage to one or more of these areas can cause temporary (acute) or persistent (chronic) pain. The spine, like the rest of our bones, slowly degenerates with age and wear. This can cause many mechanical problems within the lumbar region. Arthritis, degenerative disc disease, or physical injuries can all contribute. Among the most common are:

Sprains – overstretching or tearing the ligaments.

Strains – overstretching or tearing of the muscles or tendons.

Ruptured discs – the rubbery discs between the vertebrae bulge out of place.

Radiculopathy – compression or inflammation of a spinal root nerve, often caused by a ruptured disc pressing on the nerve.

What is Sciatica?

A common form of compression or inflammation is called sciatica. The sciatic nerve originates in the lumbar region of the back and travels down the back of each leg. Lower back pain from nerve compression can be especially painful because nerve pain does not remain localized. Instead, it radiates down the leg. This is often referred to as a “pinched nerve,” which may cause sharp pain or numbness depending on severity.

Piriformis Syndrome

Photo from Wikipedia

Piriformis syndrome occurs when the piriformis muscle in the buttocks presses against the sciatic nerve, causing pain or numbness that can worsen with sitting or physical activity.

Massage for Lower Back Pain & Sciatica

Multiple studies have shown that massage therapy is effective for lower back pain by relaxing muscles, reducing tension, and improving circulation. This increases mobility and releases vital endorphins that support healing.

Deep tissue massage releases tension in strained muscles and can relieve sciatica or piriformis syndrome by easing the muscle pressure on nerves. Hot Stone Massage is another excellent option for relieving muscle tightness.

Gentle Stretches to Relieve Sciatica Pain

Gentle stretching can help loosen lower back muscles that tend to “seize” after an injury. Stretching is one of the best self-care steps you can take to relieve or prevent episodes of pain.

Tips for safe stretching:

Stretch frequently, flexing tight joints and shaking out tense limbs.

Stretch until you feel a pull but not pain — don’t bounce.

Hold stretches for 3–5 breaths to increase circulation, 5–10 breaths to lengthen muscles.

Breathe slowly and deeply while holding stretches to get more oxygen into your muscles.

If you feel sharp pain, return to your comfort zone.

Consult your doctor before starting a stretching routine if you’ve had a recent injury or surgery.

For most pain relief, I recommend a Deep Tissue Massage. It boosts blood flow, breaks down scar tissue, reduces cramps and lactic acid buildup, and eases tension caused by overworked muscles.

Why it happens & how to help reduce it.

If your muscles feel sore after a massage, or have any type of post-massage discomfort, know that this is totally normal. While it seems counterintuitive, the feeling of soreness after a massage is your body responding in the way it is designed to. When your muscles are tight and knotted, they are not working properly. The surrounding muscles will work overtime to try to keep your body in homeostasis. As your therapist manipulates these tight muscles during your massage, they begin to break up the knots (Trigger Points), stretch the muscles and increase the blood flow to that area. Much like after a good workout, your muscles can get sore or even cramp up if you haven’t had enough water or as they become tighter and stronger.

Here are some ways to feel less sore after a massage:

1. Pay attention to your water intake, before and after your massage.

A good rule of thumb is to have a consistent water intake of at least 64 ounces of water a day. Water makes up about 70% of your body weight. Cells, organs and tissues rely on water to run smoothly. Drinking enough of it will keep your muscles more pliable, help flush out toxins and protect your sensitive tissues.

2. Take Regular Epsom Salt Baths

Epsom Salt is made of two components – Magnesium and Sulfate. Epsom salts break down into magnesium and sulfate when introduced to water. This, coupled with the warm water, has been proven to help relax sore and tight muscles. Sprinkle 1-2 cups into warm bath water and soak for up to 20 minutes. Adding essential oils like lavender to aid sleep or eucalyptus to uplift and invigorate your senses make this process even more enjoyable.

3. Yoga and other gentle stretching

Continuing to stretch daily between therapy appointments will help keep your muscles flexible and will therefore lessen the feelings of post-massage soreness. That will remind those tight muscles their resting length. Personally, I love practicing Yoga and since I have become a certified instructor in Yoga I have a deeper understanding of body and movement.

4. Apply heat for 20 minutes up to 3 times a day.

Applying heat to your sore muscles will help to loosen and soften them and ease the soreness you are experiencing. For maximum benefit, try applying heat for 20 minutes prior and 20 minutes after stretching. Avoid thinking that the hotter it is the more it will help. The heat should be a comfortable and tolerable temperature. Learn more about when to use heat vs. cold to help relieve soreness.

5. Apply muscle soothing ointments

Try Arnica or Deep Blue Rub by dōterra. These ointments provide a relieving and comforting sensation to sore muscles. It feels cooling and warming at the same time but does not sting or hurt in any way. Read the package and follow directions carefully. If you’re interested in purchasing deep blue rub or oil, you can do so here.

Lastly, and one of the most important ways to feel less sore after a massage, is to continue receiving regular massage treatments!

The many benefits of massage will increase with time and consistency. As you follow these guidelines and work consistently with your therapist, you will find that your post-massage soreness will lessen with time and you will enjoy the mind/body wellness that comes from regular massage.

I recommend a hot stone, Swedish or deep tissue treatment to relieve sore muscles. You can book your next visit online here or contact me to schedule.

Cupping itself is not a well-known technique. And it’s even less known that there are different cupping methods. In this blog post, I would like to tell you a bit more about cupping and go into detail about traditional cupping vs. dynamic cupping.

History of Cupping

Cupping has been used in Eastern medicine for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians documented its use as far back as 1550 BC. This healing modality has been used throughout the centuries to stimulate blood flow, reduce inflammation, increase immunity, treat tight muscles, high blood pressure by sedating the nervous system, back and neck pain, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, and much more. This technique is predominantly used by holistic doctors, acupuncturists, and massage therapists.

In general, there are four predominant types of Cupping:

Dry

Wet

Flash

Massage

Traditional Cupping in Massage Therapy

Traditional Dry Cupping

Dry cupping is performed using a glass cup. A flammable substance, such as a cotton ball soaked in alcohol or herbs, is placed in the cup, then set on fire. After the fire goes out, the contents are removed and the cup is placed upside down on the skin. As the air in the cup cools, a suction (varying in intensity) is created, anchoring the glass to the skin. Dry cupping leaves discolored, round marks that vary in color intensity and can last for up to 3 weeks. We all remember Michael Phelps’ famous purple marks at the Rio De Janeiro Olympics in 2016. This is the type of cupping he received.

Wet Cupping

Wet cupping also leaves cupping marks. It is performed mostly the same way, except the practitioner sanitizes the skin, then places several small incisions in the area to be cupped. This results in blood being drawn from the body into the cup as the vacuum is created. Wet cupping is said to relieve pain, stagnation and toxins. It also increases the range of motion and promotes rapid recovery.

Flash Cupping

Flash cupping gets its name due to the speed at which the entire process takes place. The process of creating the suction is the same as dry and wet cupping, no incisions are made to the skin. Several cups are placed, with light to medium pressure, all at once and left for usually no more than one minute. This is done several times successively. This is used when dry or wet cupping cannot be performed.

Dynamic Cupping in Massage Therapy

Also known as slide or glide cupping, dynamic cupping differs from traditional dry, wet and flash cupping. With dynamic cupping, the suction is created by depressing and then releasing a medical-grade silicone cup. Then it is pulled over the skin with the use of massage oil.

Dynamic cupping treats all the same issues as traditional cupping and has been said to be even more beneficial for lasting myofascial release than its traditional counterpart.

This technique is painless, relaxing and leaves NO MARKS on the skin. Yay!!!

The ancient art of cupping has many proven health benefits. When coupled with your regular massage therapy schedule, it will increase your overall health and well-being.

I hope that this gave you a good overview of traditional cupping vs. dynamic cupping. I use silicone cups during some of my treatments. If you are interested in learning more about how this healing art can benefit your health, please contact us or schedule an appointment whenever you’re ready to experience dynamic cupping in your massage session.

Millions of Americans suffer from pain, whether from injuries, activity-related strain, or chronic illness. For many, pain management isn’t just a phrase—it’s a lifeline. While doctors often prescribe medication as part of a pain management plan, medicine doesn’t always restore quality of life. Prescription opioids carry risks of addiction and often mask pain without addressing underlying causes. Many people are turning to alternative therapies to manage temporary or chronic pain.

Pain Relief Through Massage

Pain often begins as tissue damage, but stress, environment, and emotions can influence its intensity and duration. Recent research confirms what many already know: we have the ability to participate in our own healing.

Massage therapy is a safe, effective approach for many health issues. Skilled therapists support the body’s natural healing abilities through a holistic approach, considering the entire body system rather than just the site of pain. This approach increases body awareness and helps clients reconnect with breathing, emotions, and sensations throughout the body.

Deep acceptance of what arises during a session—both physically and emotionally—should be practiced by both therapist and client for optimal results.

Conditions that can benefit from massage and have been successfully treated at Heavenly Embrace Wellness include:

Lower back pain and sciatica

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS)

MS (Multiple Sclerosis)

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy Reduces Chronic Pain

Pain serves as a warning signal, and chronic pain is often linked to chronic inflammation. Far infrared therapy not only reduces inflammation but also improves chronic lower back pain, neck pain, phantom limb pain, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, menstrual pain, osteoarthritis, and tension headaches.

Meditation Helps Manage Pain

Harvard Medical School research found that participants in an 8-week mindfulness meditation program experienced reduced pain sensation, possibly due to enhanced regulation of the Alpha Rhythm in the brain.

Meditation addresses the psychological aspects of pain, while massage addresses the physiological. Massage promotes relaxation and relieves tension at and around the site of pain.

How to Do a Simple Meditation Practice

Start meditation in a comfortable seated position with cushions or blankets for support. Avoid lying down to prevent falling asleep. Begin with 5–10 minutes, gradually increasing to 20–30 minutes. Set a timer, close your eyes, and allow your breath to settle naturally.

You may focus on your breath or repeat a simple phrase, such as “I am,” with “I” on the inhale and “am” on the exhale. Repeat until your timer goes off. If thoughts arise, acknowledge them and gently return your focus to your breath or mantra.
