Plantar Fasciitis and Reflexology

plantar fascitis

Plantar fasciitis is a condition that results in pain in the heel and bottom of the foot. It is non-fatal, but extremely uncomfortable. The plantar fascia, the thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of the foot and connects the heel bone to the toes, becomes inflamed. Plantar fasciitis is common in runners and is sometimes called jogger’s heel.

The exact causes of plantar fasciitis are not known, but risk factors include an increase of exercise without warming up sufficiently, standing for long periods of time on hard surfaces, obesity, and wearing shoes that do not provide good support.

Plantar fasciitis usually involves a sharp, stabbing pain in or near the heel. It tends to hurt worse first thing in the morning, for the first few steps, and fades slightly after walking a bit. It can also hurt after prolonged periods of sitting or long periods of standing.

Reflexology is a great treatment that improves circulation, promotes relaxation, reduces pain, and soothes tired feet. Reflexology can ease the pain of plantar fasciitis.
